Hello :)

I just moved to a new place and there is no ethernet port.. But there is a telephone jack. I already purchased the broadband subscription from Elisa(Saunalahti). And I already have several WIFI Router, is there a way that I can connect the wifi router(ethernet only) with the telephone jack?

I bought a adaptor yesterday(telephone jack to rj45), and I use it to connect the wifi router but it doesnt work, maybe I am wrong..

I attached the photos here, could anyone figure out how can I do with this? Thanks!

Hello,

You need to buy adsl modem. Modem can be in bridged mode or id routed mode. In bridged mode modem convert adsl line to Ethernet and your router can be do it duties as earlier. If modem is in routed mode, modem is same time as bridged modem and router. All Ethernet ports are as inside network and wi-fi is also in same network.

So I recommending to go nearest store and buy adsl modem. Then check that modem vci/vpi values are 0/100. If those are 0/33 then settings are for Sonera network.
Hello, thank you for the reply:)

So a adsl modem is compulsory right?

I think that there is no other way to connect wifi router to pots. When you buy adsl modem, modem can be handled your existing wifi router duties.

Like jniiranen already said, you must buy the modem according to your broadband subscription.

Check your contract about the technical implementation. You could also go to Saunalahti order pages and try ordering connection again to your address, and it will show you which kinds of modems are suitable for your apartment. Discard the order after you see the modem selection.

There are two types of technologies currently using telephone wiring/plug to deploy internet-connection:

  1. ADSL (up to 20Mbit/s)
  2. VDSL2 (up to 100Mbit/s).
VDSL2 modems usually also work for ADSL connections. ADSL-modems do not work with VDSL2 subscriptions. Using a modem is mandatory because part of the connection is transferred on two telephone conductors, instead of 4 to 8 conductors (Ethernet).

Just to give you examples of said modems:
