Samsung in India

Hi, I have bought Samsung Galaxy A71 model from vaasa finland and unpacked it in India. When i started the phone, it was having a region lock and was asking for code. Samsung manual says that u have to insert local sim (European sim) first and make calls for continuous 5 mins,  then the region lock will get open.

But the issue is that my European Elisa sim doesn't work in India (Mumbai) as there is no network coverage. I have contacted Samsung support for assistance, but as usual they say that it will take couple of weeks and informed me to do the same exercise as mention above.

Does elisa network works in India(Mumbai)? How to operate the sim to get started in India.?

If I have understood correctly, that 5 min call have to be made with EU-SIM in EU region. In other words, the removal of the regional SIM lock on the phone should be done here in Finland, for example with Elisa's SIM card. I have also asked this from Huawei. Even they can not promise that phone you have bought from Finland works e.g. in Russia or, in this case, in India with local SIM card.

Phones purchased in Finland may not have support for all frequencies used in India. This may cause the phone to be less audible than a similar phone purchased in India. You should buy the phone directly from the country or region where you plan to use it.

Hi @prafulbvandre and welcome to OmaYhteisö! :) I moved your comment as a new thread so it’s easier to focus on the problem at hand :)

In India at least Vodafone Idea and Bharti Airtel should be functional networks with 2G, 3G and 4G covered. Others may work too, but those are our companion operators over there. Have you tried to manually switch network operator from the settings? What kind of error message do you receive when trying to connect?

Forgot about this until you mentioned it! That’s probably the reason why the phone won’t register to network at all :/

If Samsung Galaxy A71 is version SM-A715F/DSN it shoud be so called global version and suitable for Indian networks.

Samsung phones sold in Finland are all "EU sim card only" models. Samsung does not supply global versions to Finland at all.

If the user wants to use the phone in another region with a local sim card, that unlocking must be done first.

Ok.

If the initial user of this topic is already in India (Mumbai) the only way to get that unlocking done is to send the phone to back to Finland to someone trusted person who can do it. Do I understand right??

Pretty much yeah, that’s the case. I’ve heard rumors about Samsung’s support also being able to help, but can’t confirm this

I have attempted by manually switching network and tried to select network bharti airtel, vodafone and idea network, but none of these networks are reachable. ´Unable to connect the network´ is the message i receive when trying to connect.

I have contacted samsung support in finland but they informed that it will take couple of weeks to get the region unlock code and also suggested me that easier way is to insert European sim in both the sim slots one at a time (as it is a dual sim mobile) and make calls for 5 mins .
