Hello,

I have mokkula E160E & windows xp.

The problem is that the connection drops every 20-30 minutes even with high signal strenght (always 3G, always 7/10 bars signal strength) and normal internet surfing & e-mail (ff/IE, thunderbird).

Software says it's still connected but 0 kb/s and clearly no packet activity, ff/IE and thunderbird times out.

It doesn't help to disconnect and connect again, I have to remove the mokkula and re-insert it, restart the software so I can re-enter the pin code again... it connects and stays connected for another 20-30 minutes and then I have to repeat the same procedure again after 20-30 minutes..and again.... and again.

Help & About says Mobiililaajakaista 1.0.0 BL 49. Is there a newer version to download that might fix the problem?

This is starting to get abit annoying.

And no, the connection is never idle too long, so the laptop never goes to any power-save modes etc.

I just updated the firmware here:
http://www.elisa.fi/asiakastuki/index.cfm?o=1998.15&did=8320

But it makes no difference.

I read somewhere that the USB power output is around 0.5W and the E160E mokkula requires around 1-2 W peaks (higher watt with higher connection speed?). Could the power peaks cause the connection to drop?

Any suggestions to fix this? Should I have to continue paying bills for a faulty product?

(I'd better copy this message before pressing send if the line have been dropped...)

Hi!

I tried to google but didn't find any similar problems elsewhere but no luck there...

I experienced a similar net access freezing (though not related to Nettitikku but WLAN) and it turned out to be my laptop that was coming to it's. One way of troubleshooting this might be trying your Nettitikku on some other laptop and see if it still fails.

Hello!

Yes I will try installing the mokkula on another laptop to see if it's a problem with the laptop/windows xp installation.

But I tried a workaround that seems to work, I've been online for about 2 hours now without problems.

I looked at this link:
http://palsta.saunalahti.fi/index.php/topic,13376.msg114177.html#msg114177

And downloaded hspa-ping.bat and sleep.exe to the same directory (not needing to change path settings). What it does is it pings google.com with 500 bytes of data every 5-10 seconds.

This keeps the packets flowing without interruptions, as long as the DOS window is open and hspa-ping.bat is running, i.e. while reading or writing an e-mail for 5-10 minutes.

So the problem is that the laptop/windows/mokkula drops connection when there's no packets being sent for a short while (a few minutes).

It's not the best solution but it works.... and I will continue paying saunalahti bills :P
