I have the 13,90e contract with saunalähti. When abroad I tried to use "ovimaps" on my nokia E52 as navigator. I though that this is possible witout having to go online- but each time i tried it requested that I go online. Tis I didn't do because I was afraid of the costs of using saunalähti abroad in Switzerland. So I had to do with Mitchelin hard copy maps. Does anyone know if you can use the phone with saunalähti without extra costs and should not the navigator work without internet access?

I agree it'd be great to have an affordable data transfer abroad. I doubt that it'd happen anytime soon unless EU enforces new regulations.
That's probably the reason it requested me to go online' because I hadn't downloaded the maps before I left. I'm living in Finland and was just there for a week driving around so no need to change sim cards. I'll follow your advice also next time I go abroad' about disabling other features that may prompt my phone to want internet access.
Pity elisa´or saunalahti doesn't develop a way of cheaply using internet say in the EU countries.

I would recommend you to download the country maps from maps.ovi.com before you go abroad. Because, as eeeno said, roaming data transfer costs can be really expensive abrod.

Fixed price doesn't include roaming data transfer and the cost of using mobile internet abroad is very high.  There have been many unfortunate people who got thousand euro in additional fees. If you stay there for a longer time i advice to purchase a local prepaid sim card with a mobile internet or utilize free wifi hotspots.

The navigator should work fine without internet access. You just need to configure it so that it won't be using any of the online features:

From the ovi Maps main menu select Options -> Settings -> Internet -> Connection: Offline

In addition you also need to disable a few other features from the phone settings to completely avoid the use of gprs:

Menu -> Ctrl. panel -> Settings -> General -> Positioning -> Positioning methods -> Uncheck everything else but Integrated GPS.
