Hi,

My fixed broadband connection Saunalahti Laajakaista 50M was activated yesterday (Jan 13). I'm on a tight budget therefore I did not purchase a new modem from Elisa. However my modem's attempts of connecting to internet have been unsuccessful. In fact the DSL light does not even blink. It's been dark all the time.

This modem is probably a bit outdated but it should be compatible nonetheless. (It supports ADSL2+) I even tried to test this modem at my neighbors' places. Unfortunately none of them have a landline.

Here are the settings:

Here are the diagnostic logs:

That's ONLY an ADSL-modem, it won't work!  You need a VDSL modem to get your 50M internet-connection to work...

So there is gonna be some money outlay, from about 60euros upwards ( verkkokauppa.com ADSL/VDSL-modems

Thanks. My understanding was that even if they were not compatible, the DSL light should at least light up or blink. Lesson learned.
A few days ago, a technician came and checked the connection. It turned out the landline was not functional at all. It belongs to Sonera and Elisa sent a maintenance request to Sonera.
Since it's so cold outside, I guess the only thing I can do is wait.

  • ? Good if it's getting sorted. In some VDSL2 lines normal adsl modem can work but it all depends on what kind of VDSL2 tech is being used in the area. 90%  of the cases it wont work or even blink.
  • Since I first went to an Elisa service point on Jan 5, I've been patiently waiting for weeks.

I had to call Elisa, be transferred to another service representative and then wait for 20 minutes to get an update. Each time what I heard was "Sonera will fix it" but no estimated timeframe was given.

I end up canceling this contract, because the whole process is taking way too long.

Today I went to the same service point to apply for a mobile broadband. Even with my Saunalahti username and password, the service representative refused to assist me, simply because I forgot to bring my passport.

I understand that a valid identity document is required. And I don't blame him.

However, the purpose of presenting an ID is to authenticate the user. What makes username/password less sufficient?

  • ? Law, most likely. If something goes wrong, at least the shop can claim that they were presented proper ID 🙂
