Is it possible for VDSL to go beyond 50mbps?

Hi,

Looking at VDSL2 standards, it can go all the way up to 300/100mbps. But it seems that Elisa is just limiting to 50mbps. Why is that? Whats the case?

Looking at my old place at Vantaa right now, and maximum offered speed is 50/10mbps, although I remember getting 100/10 there with real world speeds of ~90/10.

Can I pay more to get 300/100? =)

I’ve asked about fiber installation - 15k including the digging 😕. Houses with fiber are 130m away 😞.

4g - Yes, if I walk behind the hill, it is 150+ mbps, but where my house stands - 20mbps max.

Standards are standards , but unfortunately Elisa offers VDSL-subscriptions only up to 100/10 Mbits/s.

VDSL-speed depends on distance between DSLAM and modem and cable quality and disturbances.

Yep, I get it. But as I said, my previous place was getting 100/10 from Elisa and now only 50/10 is advertised there. I’m assuming the 50mbps is artificial as I was achieving 90+mbps downlink on that line.

So that got me thinking, maybe 50mbps at my current address is artificial as well? 50 is what is 100% achievable on any given distance from dslam in Elisa network → maximum speed Elisa is willing to advertise.

So maaybe there is a switch called “push as much as possible down to this line” at Elisa available? =)

As I said VDSL-speed depends on distance between DSLAM and modem. Check modems handshake speed and if it is more than 50 Mbit/s in download direction then contact Elisas customer services and ask if you can upgrade your subscription to 100/10. Notice that 100/10 costs more than 50/10.
